What great love the Father has lavished.

1 John 3:1a See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!..

8pm rolled by and I’d had enough of human interaction, I needed to be alone with my creator. I prayed whilst lying down, offloading my burdens to the Lord, and thanking God for the wonders he was performing in my life. Prayer for me is really intimate and personal, and this evening I felt even more free to open up to God about my deepest fears, burdens, and anxieties.

There has been a lot sitting on my heart lately and I’d almost hidden those fears away behind the “God knows how I feel already” blanket, not daring to speak it out and truly bring it to God personally.

As I lowered my walls and allowed vulnerably to seap out in prayer, The Lord drew me closer to himself and embraced me with his love, reminding me of my identity that is founded upon the solid rock of His love and mercy.

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!

Have you forgotten your identity? Is the “hustle and bustle” of life currently defining, distracting or discouraging you? Have you stopped clinging tightly unto the eternal unchanging word of God?

I had. Though in my head I know I am accepted and dearly loved by God, I occasionally forget the weight that this truth carries. I occasionally forget how that love should shape the way I live and define the way I see myself – because it certainly defines the way God sees me!

The perfect love of God casts out all fear, so we no longer need to be afraid, anxious or worried!

God’s love has been lavishly poured out upon those who call upon his name and fear him. The word lavish speaks of abundance, generosity, overflow.. the Lord did not hold back or hold out on you, he has completely let his love flow out upon you to cover, protect, heal and comfort you. Let down your umbrella and receive. Let the love of God guard your heart and guide your mind.

It’s easier said than done though isn’t it? Especially when in the natural there is very little spectacular that attests to this truth. But there is something I do know that proclaims this truth..

God’s love for you is not just wishful thinking, it has been demonstrated and made evident through the substitutionary death of Jesus Christ. This death brought you and I into an eternal relationship with the Father when we repented and believed in His name. We are now his daughters, and this is God’s way of telling us ” I LOVE YOU”.
Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
It’s humbling to think that no matter how much we grow in our faith, our feeble human minds will never be able to completely comprehend the magnitude of love God has for us, not until we see him face to face. Till then, seek to daily rediscover the depths of this love and allow it to drown out the fears, doubts, and worries that may come your way.
How deep the Father’s love for us
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure
How great the pain of searing loss
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the Chosen One
Bring many sons to glory.

  1. Thank you for being so open and honest in this post. Sometimes we forget the promises of God which he couldn’t have made more bold through Jesus’ atonement for our sins. Thank you I’m encouraged by this !
